FAQs
What is Queer Social Club all about?
1
We are a community based, grass-roots group formed in 2023 who meet regularly for socialising, joy and connection in Sydney, Gadigal Land.
We aim to build events that are low or no-cost and collaborative with community, especially like-minded groups getting off the ground or those we think are the best fit for our ethos.
We want to centre First Nations, POC, disabled and ND, refugee, trans and gender diverse,, working class folks and all those living in marginalized spaces outside of dominant culture, especially dominant LGBT+ cultures. We’re peers, not experts - so always looking to improve on how we do stuff, together.
Our events are 18+ and welcome adults of all generations. The event types are based on community suggestion, and are led by volunteers with event know-how, psychosocial support skills, and community development experience (that we believe anyone can learn and use for their own community care activities).
Why is no or low alcohol a focus?
2
TLDR: We thinks there’s heaps of those options already. Which we love!
We believe in a Harm Reduction approach to substance use and respect the role of substances in our lives. However, due to significant supply of AOD spaces available to community, we aim to offer alternative options to community gathering than typical pub/club based/ alcohol focused settings. If you’re looking for those, we can still point you in the right direction to some awesome ones!
Can I put my hand up to volunteer with Queer Social Club?
3
Hell yeah! Our ethos is to show our peers that your ideas matter and you have the ability to organise, too! We are always keen to skill-share and work together whether on a single event or in an ongoing capacity. Community groups need reliable folks on board, with solid communication skills and follow-through. If that sounds like you, email or dm us pleaseee.
How can I contact QSC?
4
You can reach us via our email in the form below, or get into our DM’s on instagram . Keep in mind we are volunteers, we run one local event a month, and our activities aren’t monetised, so we aren’t a good fit for brand partnerships teehee :)
